Canlandıranlar Introducing and Game Workshop
Melisa Çelikyazıcıyan Kavuştu & Sevde Yavuz

Date: Sunday, October 19, 2025
Time: 3:00–5:00 PM
Venue: Müze Gazhane
Duration: 2 hours
Participants: 15–20 people

Canlandıranlar International Film Festival is being held for the 13th time this year. The theme of the festival will be “Who’s Afraid of 13?” In this introducing workshop, held before the festival, we will experience the spirit of the festival together. We will learn about the festival’s venues, program, guest of honor, and jury members, and discuss the atmosphere created by the festival through images from past years.

In the second part of the workshop, we will test our festival knowledge with an interactive game. In the quiz section, which will include questions about the festival’s theme, history, and venues, correct answers will be rewarded with surprise prizes and a festival pass. This will provide an opportunity to reinforce festival knowledge in a fun way.

Afterwards, participants will be invited to a short creative exercise. Everyone will imagine their own festival mascot and bring it to life on paper. This project, which relies more on imagination than drawing skills, will reveal participants’ personal interpretations of the festival spirit. Those who wish will share their designs, and the most striking ideas will be rewarded with small prizes.

At the end of the workshop, information will be shared on ways to participate in the festival, including volunteering and participation opportunities. Participants will be able to access more content through the festival’s social media and communication channels.

A screenplay is a story told within a dramatic structure through the depiction of images and sounds. The photographic imagery we engage with when writing a screenplay in film gives way to various audiovisual techniques in animation.

In this two-hour workshop, we will explore ways to incorporate the creative potential of technique and material into the scriptwriting process when writing a screenplay for animation.

We will consider together how the technique used in animation—stop-motion, illustration, 2D/3D, clay, or sand—is not merely a tool; we will consider how the unique world of the material shapes the narrative. In short, we will write a screenplay not by focusing on the camera, but by considering paper, clay, lines, and pixels.

The workshop focuses on creating a short scene. First, we will discuss together how a scene idea might arise. This idea might be inspired by a memory, a dream, or a vision.

In the practical part, each participant will develop their own scene idea; They will choose an animation technique and write a short text describing the scene, incorporating the possibilities of the chosen technique and the structure of the material into their creative thinking. At the end of the workshop, everyone will have a core scene script ready to be transformed into a film script.

Participants simply bring a pen and paper or a computer.
