Paul Glabicki | 10 min | USA | 1985
When I was invited to the Hiroshima Animation Festival in 1992 with my short film BUNT, I had the great pleasure of meeting Paul Glabicki. Later, I was able to invite him to the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where he explained his animation method for films such as Object Conversation. This opened up a completely new approach to animation production for me, one that differed significantly from classic narrative films. Paul’s working method is more akin to that of a visual artist, as he applies animated drawings, often combined with found visual elements, layer by layer onto the same sequence of sheets of paper. In creating the soundtrack, he also employed an unusual method based on an acoustic collage of widely varied sound sources.
I also found it fascinating, that Paul created both the visuals and the sound himself.
