The reasons for the fascination this cult film held for me were manifold. The visual style alone, the high-contrast black-and-white imagery and the surreal settings, left a powerful impression. Then there was the daring concept of constructing scenes entirely from endless loops, eschewing any form of logical, linear storytelling. And finally, the relentless soundtrack with its subtly unsettling, repetitive audio loop. Taken together, these elements seemed to transport me into a state of consciousness that is difficult to describe, almost like a trance or a state of intoxication.
