This year, the festival’s traditional “Tribute” segment focuses on Maarif (1988)-a lesser-known work in the history of Turkish animation. Directed by Kazım Sezgin and written by Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen, this award-winning short film serves not only as a critique of the education system but also as a historical record documenting the origins of animation production in Türkiye and the inception of animation education at Anadolu University. The film stands out for its critical perspective on the conventional educational system and its innovative use of the “cut-out” animation technique.
