Saturday 28 October, 14:00, Institut Français Istanbul
This event, which was shaped by the suggestion of Serdar Kökçeoğlu, the director of the documentary Mimaroğlu, features animation directors as well as second-generation contemporary Turkish composers. Kökçeoğlu’s new project, Sounds of the 20th Century: Usmanbaş documentary, he came across the animated film Out of Into, directed by the artist Irving Kriesberg, with music by Bülent Arel, which had not been seen since the 1970s. Kökçeoğlu also supported director Pelin Kırca to use the music of another contemporary Turkish composer İlhan Mimaroğlu in her animated film, and the result was a short animated film called The Crowd, which found a place in festivals such as Annecy. In this inspiring event for the young generation of animators, composers and artists, Serdar Kökçeoğlu will share his research and Pelin Kırca will share her experiences and discuss the relationship between our contemporary composers and animation. Matthias Kriesberg, the musician son of Irving Kriesberg, will also contribute to this important meeting for both contemporary music research and animation history with a video message.
In the first part of the event, the films Out of Into and The Crowd will be screened. The common feature of these two films is that they have been presented to art lovers in contemporary art exhibitions as well as festivals.
